Anupam Shobhakar hails from the Maihar Gharana,a family whose contribution to the world of instrumental music is unparalled ,producing artists such as Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Pt Ravi Shankar, Pt Nikhil Banerjee. Anupam is rooted in an extensive and serious study of various melodic, harmonic and rhythmic traditions and creates massive blends. Anupam has issued two polished albums of jazz and progressive-rock influenced East-West fusion, on which he plays electric guitar, keyboards, and MIDI percussion, as well recently his debut classical album of traditional sarode ragas. Anupam believes in meeting and uniting cultures and people of different musical backgrounds, which has led to collaborations with wide angled diverse artists from Spain, Italy, the Middle East , Russia and the United States. In his musical journey, Anupam has performed at Canada, Italy, Germany, the Middle East and the United States apart from playing at all the major classical festivals in his native homeland of India. One of Anupam’s collaborations with an American based singer made it to the first round of Grammies in 2009.
