Flavio Martinez – Pan Pipes

Published January 1, 2010 at 12:00 am

Flavio Martinez is originally from Nogales, Mexico. He plays traditional flutes, especially the panpipe flutes from South-America. He first listened to these beautiful flutes while in Mexico and became “enchanted” by the exotic and haunting sounds. He learned to play while he was studying in Guadalajara where he got a BA in Music. “Is amazing how you can create beautiful music with such simple reed pipes,” he said, and on his performances he uses a wide variety of flutes such as: quena, quenacho, sikus, sanka, malta, ika, ocarina, and rondador, playing mainly music from the Andean countries Bolivia, Perú and Ecuador. His repertoire includes not only Andean music but also Latin-Pop and international songs. Flavio currently teaches music in a public school in Phoenix and performs around the southwest mainly in concerts and festivals. Visit www.flavioflutes.com to learn more.
